Install Yalqen

A couple of minutes on any Apple silicon Mac, with Homebrew or a disk image.

What you need

  • macOS 13 Ventura or later
  • A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or newer). Intel Macs are not supported.

Install with Homebrew

If you use Homebrew, one command installs Yalqen from its own tap:

brew install --cask YSamed/yalqen/yalqen

The cask also clears the download quarantine for you, so macOS opens Yalqen without a warning.

Install from the disk image

  1. Download the latest disk image (for Apple silicon).
  2. Open it and drag Yalqen into the Applications folder.
  3. Open Yalqen from Applications or Spotlight.

If macOS blocks the first launch

Early builds are not notarized by Apple yet, so macOS may say it cannot verify the app. Open System Settings › Privacy & Security, scroll down and choose Open Anyway. You only need to do this once per install.

If macOS instead says Yalqen is damaged and can’t be opened, remove the quarantine flag and open it again:

xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Yalqen.app

Only run this for apps you trust. Yalqen’s source is public on GitHub and every release is built from it by GitHub Actions.

Make Yalqen your default browser

Open Yalqen’s settings with ⌘, and make it the default browser, or choose it in System Settings › Desktop & Dock › Default web browser.

Update

Yalqen does not update itself yet. With Homebrew, run brew upgrade --cask yalqen. Otherwise download the latest disk image and replace the app in Applications. Your tabs, bookmarks and settings stay where they are. The changelog lists what changed in every release.

Uninstall

Run brew uninstall --cask yalqen, or drag Yalqen from Applications to the Trash.
